More heads to roll at Sundowns, vows Rulani Mokwena
Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has vowed that more heads will roll at the club.
This comes after FARPost reported that two technical team members were booted out of the club’s training camp in Polokwane.
The duo of Riedoh Berdien and Marcus Mashilo were sent back to Chloorkop, leaving the team to continue with its preparations in Limpopo.
Berdien serves as fitness and conditioning coach, while Mashilo is the club’s assistant goalkeepers’ coach.
FARPost can confirm that the duo is yet to rejoin the DStv Premiership giants and await to hear their fate.
Speaking during Sundowns’ press conference on Wednesday afternoon, Mokwena said he was effecting technical changes after taking over as head coach.
RULANI MOKWENA SAYS MORE CHANGES WILL FOLLOW
“The choice of word is very important; expelled is a very strong word. I would refrain from using that word.
“I would say that it’s only normal in any football club that when a head coach is appointed, there are technical team changes,” Mokwena told journalists.
He said the club would make an announcement on the case of the two in due course.
“It is only normal, and for sure, the club will make the necessary announcement. But to use the word expelled is a bit extreme, but normal, especially when it’s Rulani.”
He added that there would be more changes to the technical team.
“We tend to be a bit extreme. I understand. But it’s normal, and there will be more changes because the club has given me an opportunity which I am extremely grateful for.
“They’ve given me the support that I am extremely grateful for, and mine is to reward them and repay that.
“Part of that is that I need a very strong team around me because I cannot do it alone, and that means for sure, in the interim, it’s to move in a direction that the club wants to move in.
“The club will always outlive me. In due course, the club will make announcements as to what changes have been made to the technical team,” Mokwena told journalists.
GEARING UP FOR PIRATES
Mokwena was elevated to the position of sole head coach after two seasons of functioning as co-coach with Manqoba Mngqithi.
Under his leadership, Sundowns have started well, winning all four games.
In the process, they scored 15 goals and are yet to concede. Sundowns also lifted the Carling Black Label Cup after thumping 10-man Orlando Pirates 4-0.
Sundowns are gearing up to face Orlando Pirates at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Friday as the DStv Premiership returns.
Mokwena will be hoping for a win against his former team, Pirates, as he looks to steer the Sundowns ship to the sixth successive title.
