Mpengesi warns Chippa not to get carried away after Pirates victory
Chippa United chairman Chippa Mpengesi has warned his club that they must not get carried away after the morale-boosting victory over Orlando Pirates.
He stated that the victory should act as motivation to help instil a culture of winning at the club.
The Chilli Boys scored late at Orlando Stadium, thanks to Tanzanian defender Abdi Banda who netted a late header to hand Daine Klate his first win in the DStv Premiership.
In their opening two matches they registered a draw and a defeat against SuperSportUnited and Royal AM respectively.
“We must not take our heads down, it’s a good win against Pirates but it must not stay in our heads. We must instil a culture of winning, not winning one match then you lose five. We must instil the culture of winning, the professionalism, the discipline, but this is a good sign,” said Mpengesi.
He further apologised to the club’s supporters saying the win is a way of making amends following 3-1 bashing by Royal AM.
“There is no better sorry for Wednesday than this [win]. I was so for disappointed not beating Royal AM in our own home ground. I thank my boys for winning because its redeeming us, and there is no better sorry.”
The chairman believes the victory was a reward from God. He revealed that he opted to go worship instead if going to the stadium to support his club.
“Preparations were very good because I trusted everything to God, I didn’t bother myself going to the match, I was busy evangelising, winning souls. I choose to go to the house of God not the stadium. God reward me making Chippa United win,” he added.
