TS Galaxy’s move for Samir Nurkovic hits a snag

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Royal AM striker Samir Nurkovic’s proposed move to DStv Premiership side TS Galaxy has hit a snag.

Nurkovic recently parted ways with Royal AM in an unpleasant way two months after joining the club as a free agent.

The Serbian forward left the KwaZulu-Natal outfit without featuring in any official game due to a knee injury. The player’s camp informed FARPost that Royal AM didn’t pay Nurkovic for over two months.

And with the Royal AM and Nurkovic matter now handed to FIFA, the player is on the search for a new home, and TS Galaxy were in the picture.

As reported by FARPost last month, Galaxy showed interest in acquiring the services of Nurkovic, and the club placed an offer on the table.

An insider close to the situation revealed that Galaxy’s offer to Nurkovic was deemed “disrespectful” as it was way below the player’s value.

“Nurkovic is still in South Africa, his agent [Dajan Simac,] had a chat with the club, and the club wanted to sign the player as they had several meetings with Tim Sukazi and the coach [Sead Ramovic], but negotiations reached an impasse,” said the source.

“Nurkovic’s camp is not happy with how the club handled everything, including the tabled offer, which was extremely low when considering the package he got at Kaizer Chiefs and the Royal AM contract.

“The numbers were really bad, and Nurkovic’s agent [Simac] urged them to improve the contract.

“But they didn’t want to do so. Instead, after failing to reach an agreement with Nurkovic’s agent, Galaxy contacted the player direct to offer him the contract, but Nurkovic directed them to his agent.

“The agent felt the club was undermining his player with their offer and wanted to cheat them. So the deal is off as they rejected Galaxy,” added the informant.

The 30-year-old Nurkovic was a popular figure at Chiefs and was a darling to the club’s faithful, who even gave him the nickname ‘Kokota Piano’.

He ended his first season at Amakhosi as the top goal scorer for the club with 14 goals. However, due to injury, Nurkovic struggled to hit those heights again in his last two seasons at the Soweto giants.

Nurkovic netted 21 goals and provided 10 assists in 78 games for Chiefs.
