New twist in Klate and Chippa United saga

There has been a new twist in the saga of Daine Klate and Chippa United.

Club supremo Siviwe ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi claims the coach is not fired by the club.

On Saturday, Siyabulela Gwambi and newly appointed assistant coach Morgan Mammilla took charge of the team.

According to Mpengesi, coach Klate is still employed by the club. Therefore, he will be offered a role in the club if he is still open working at the club.

The club didn’t make any official statement regarding Klate’s dismissal last week following numerous reports.

Mpengesi therefore, set the record straight regarding the coaching situation at the club. He also revealed reasons for Klate to be relieved from his duties.

“Daine Klate is not fired, he will be deployed elsewhere in the team. He is a local from PE, we are definitely going to deploy him unless he doesn’t want that,” Mpengesi told SNAWA.

“I enjoy being a friend to the coach, to be able to have respect and talk to him. I was not happy with the style of football that we were playing. When you play at home, you must dictate terms but we were failing to do that.”

“We don’t want to be fighting relegation from the beginning to the end of the season. We are now motivated as we are no longer no. 16 on the log.”

Mpengesi further dropped a bombshell, revealing that Klate don’t possess a PSL coaching contract. He was using his DStv Diski Challenge contract in charge of the first team.

“To be honest with you, Daine was coaching the PSL team with his MDC contract. We gave him a proposal for a PSL contract. He said he was still considering it, it is not our fault though that he did not have a PSL contract.” Mpengesi added.

After Klate’s removal from the hot seat, the Chilli Boys got back to winning ways on Saturday against AmaZulu. They ended their four-match winless run with a 2-1 victory away from home.

On Saturday, they host winless Marumo Gallants at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, a venue they have failed to register a win in two years now.

Kickoff is at 3pm.
