Pirates ordered to apologise to the league for Sukazi ordeal

The Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee (DC) has handed down the punishment to Orlando Pirates for the stadium incident involving TS Galaxy Chairman Tim Sukazi.

Pirates were found guilty of denying Sukazi access inside the Orlando Stadium pitch in December last year, despite him having a valid all-access VIP card.

The unfortunate incident resulted in a scuffle between officials of the two clubs, with an official from Galaxy even going to open an assault case against an official from Pirates.

In a statement released on Tuesday, PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu said the DC PSL DC has ordered Pirates to write an apology to the league for the incident.

The DC ruled as follows:

1. Orlando Pirates was fined a monetary amount of R100 000, which is amount is wholly suspended for a period of 12 months on condition that during the period of suspension, Orlando Pirates is not found guilty of the offence again – in which case the R100 000 would immediately be activated and payable, and they could further be sanctioned for that other infringement which they would’ve committed, over and above the current one.

2. They were also ordered to pay the costs of the DC hearing, with a cost of approximately four sittings administratively computed by the league and sent to Orlando Pirates for payment.

3. They were further directed to send an apology to the league. In that apology, they need to recognise that they had brought the league, the game, SAFA, CAF, FIFA and the sponsors into disrepute in the manner in which their officials manhandled Mr Sukazi.
