Pirates to appear before PSL DC
Orlando Pirates have officially been charged for their fans’ misbehaviour during their MTN8 second-leg semifinal clash against Mamelodi Sundowns at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.
The Soweto giants will appear before the PSL DC on the 14th of November 2022 at 10:00.
The pitch invasion incident happened after the final whistle of the showdown when Bucs thrashed Bafana Ba Style 3-0 to advance to the final of the MTN8.
Fans invaded the pitch in celebration of Pirates’ victory before the security guards could disperse them, with the players and match officials running into the tunnel for their safety purposes.
This was not the first incident that took place where spectators had invaded the pitch in the tournament as it happened during the quarterfinal encounter between Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch at Danie Craven Stadium.
Amakhosi were also charged by the PSL and the club pleaded guilty to all charges.
“I can confirm that Orlando Pirates Football Club has been charged for spectator misbehaviour arising from the pitch invasion of their spectators in the semifinal match between themselves and Mamelodi Sundowns,” said the PSL Prosecutor, Advocate Zola Majavu in a statement.
“They will appear before the PSL DC on the 14th of November 2022 at 10:30.
“Thereafter, I will update you on further outcome of those proceedings.
“And as always, in the intervening period, there will not be a further commentary on the matter.”
The Sea Robbers will face the AmaZulu in the tournament’s finals on Saturday, 5 November 2022 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
The kick-off is scheduled for 18:00.
A week ago, the PSL confirmed that tickets for the much-anticipated MTN8 final between Pirates and Usuthu are sold out.
All ticket holders are requested to arrive early. Gates open at 15:00.
