Ramahlwe Mphahlele’s true feelings about Kaizer Chiefs’ exit

Newly signed AmaZulu defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele has revealed his true feelings about his Kaizer Chiefs exit.

Mphahlele, alongside several other players including Samir Nurkovic, Bernard Parker, Leonardo Castro, Daniel Akpeyi, Lebohang Manyama, Dumisani Zuma, Lazarus Kambole, Anthony Akumu and Daniel Cardoso, were shown the exit door by Kaizer Chiefs at the end of the season.

Mphahlele spent six years at Kaizer Chiefs, and at the end of last season, he was one of the players that left the club.

However, his name was not there when the initial announcements were made, only coming a little later.

He has since explained why his name came quite late.

“We had talks; the plan was for me to stay a little longer, but there was revival conversation, and they wanted to refresh the team.

“[They were] trying to bring new youngsters and again. Honestly speaking, if you want to win or build in football, you can’t keep going the same way.

“I was there for six years, and no trophies and they had to make a decision,” the 32-year-old said.

Unlike other released players who have expressed unhappiness in how their exits were handled, Mphahlele understands the decision made by the Soweto giants.

He feels that something had to happen with the club not winning any trophy in seven years. He urged fans to be patient because building takes long.

“Kaizer Chiefs had to make that decision about, not only me but other released players., They had to, and we must accept that.

“They had no choice; building takes time, and changes at Chiefs won’t happen now.

“It’s going to take time, and fans must be patient,” he added.

Club legend Arthur Zwane was appointed head coach of Kaizer Chiefs ahead of the 2022/23 season. He has been tasked to return the glory days to Naturena.
