Dolly rescues Chiefs against Galaxy, while the Birds fly high over Royal

Kaizer Chiefs and TS Galaxy played out to a thrilling 2-2 draw in a DStv Premiership clash at FNB Stadium in Soweto on Wednesday evening.

Galaxy came into the Chiefs game winless in their last seven games in the league. On top of that, in those games, they failed to score a goal.

But they managed to break their goal drought against a Chiefs side struggling defensively.

Meanwhile, after a shock 2-0 loss to Chippa United in a league game, Chiefs were looking to bounce back to winning ways as they were on a two-match winning run.

The home side, Chiefs, started the match on a high as a lovely through ball by Lehlogonolo Matlou found Ashley Du Preez in the seventh minute of the game.

It was Du Preez’s first goal in as many matches, and it was Matlou’s first assist in Chiefs colours.

Galaxy launched an attack looking for a quick reply, but the Chiefs’ defence was resolute.

Amakhosi kept creating chances in the first half, with Yusuf Maart, Reeve Frosler, Matlou and Khama Billiat failing to convert.

Arthur Zwane’s men were made to rue their missed chances as their former captain Bernard Parker scored the equaliser for the Rockets in the 32nd minute from a corner.

Things went from bad to worse for Chiefs as the visitors took the lead eight minutes later through Traore’s header as the first 45 minutes ended with Galaxy in front.

In search of the equaliser, the Soweto giants dominated the second stanza, with Galaxy happy to sit back.

Serval chances went abegging for the Glamour Boys throughout the half, with Maart and Billiat coming close with clear-cut opportunities.

As it looked like Galaxy would walk away with all three points, Keagan Dolly came to the rescue with a beautifully taken free kick, finding the top corner in the 81st minute of the game.

That proved to be the last goal of the match, with Chiefs dropping down to fifth place on the log standings, while Galaxy moved up to 11th spot after 11 games.

Meanwhile, at Dobsonville Stadium, Swallows picked up all three points in their league match against Royal AM.

Gregory Damons and Mwape Musonda were on the scoresheet for the Birds as they jumped out of the relegation zone to 12th place.
