Royal AM, Pirates share the spoils
Mfundo Thikazi’s equaliser ensured Royal AM came from behind to secure a 2-all draw with Orlando Pirates in the DStv Premiership tie at Chatsworth Stadium on Friday night.
Bucs steamed into the first half like a house on fire with Deon Hotto opening the scoring early in the third minute to put the Sea Robbers in front.
Just four minutes after the restart, Kwame Peprah added the scoreline.
John Maduka’s side tried to pull one back before the interval, but it was never meant to be at the time.
The game went into the half-time break with the Happy People leading by two goals.
A sensational second half from the home side earned them a goal from former Pirates defender Thabo Matlaba in the 79th minute.
Right on the stroke of the second stanza, Thwihli Thwahla took advantage when Thikazi levelled matters.
Both teams settled for a 2-2 draw after an eventful 90 minutes.
As things stand, the KwaZulu-Natal outfit climbs up the table to third place with 47 points after 30 games. They are level on points with Stellenbosch and Kaizer Chiefs with a better goal difference, while Pirates are placed 6th with 44 points from 29 outings.
