Royal AM to use Moses Mabhida for CAF campaign

FarPost has been reliably informed that Royal AM home games of the CAF Confederations Cup will be played at Moses Mabhida Stadium after Chatsworth Stadium was ruled out of hosting any continental competition as it does not meet the standards.

CAF’s disapproval of Chatsworth has forced Thwihli Thwahla to change the venue for their continental debut.

Royal AM co-coach Khabo Zondo is, however, unfazed about the move, insisting “they can play anywhere.”

The KwaZulu-Natal side is yet to announce where they will play their home games, but FARPost sources have confirmed Moses Mabhida tops the list of stadiums they may use.

With CAF rolling out new stadium compliance regulations, several venues on the continent have been banned from staging continental club and international games.

When the ex-Golden Arrows mentor was asked about the African football governing body’s disapproval of Chatsworth, Zondo responded: “You know, we are a club that can play anywhere. You give us Chatsworth. We will go there. You give us Moses Mabhida. We will also want to go there and perform.

“However, we have not decided where we are going to play, maybe we will use this one [Moses Mabhida], or the management will decide where we should go.”

On a positive note, the side is amongst the 108 teams granted licences by CAF to be eligible to participate in the upcoming inter-club competitions.

Meanwhile, the covid-19 pandemic left so many businesses dry, and many venues were affected as there were no longer hosting events, with Moses Mabhida Stadium also one of those. Now it seems like it is back to where it used to be.

The most loved football stadium in South Africa, which has been referred to as the home of finals or big games, the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium is set to host more big games this season after a very successful hosting of Royal AM and Orlando Pirates on Wednesday night which saw the attendance of over 20000 supporters, the biggest crowd so far in the mid-week game and it understood that more big games for KZN teams would be played in the venue.

Moses Mabhida stadium is undoubtedly the most loved by fans for the accommodation. It is easily accessible for supporters to move whenever there are big games and entertainment inside and outside the venue, making it easy for anyone to come through and enjoy the beauty of Durban by being around.

It is also understood that there are negotiation talks for other teams in the province to use the venue for their big games, such as Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns, to attract more supporters. It is also believed that Bafana Bafana might also play their match on the 27th of September at the same venue with another Cup final.

The second biggest match, set to attract more than 30 thousand spectators, is a DStv Premiership match between the on form Richards Bay and Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday evening.
