Royal AM’s Khabo Zondo reveal what worries him about facing Kaizer Chiefs

Royal AM’s Khabo Zondo has indicated a worrying factor about their Nedbank Cup quarter-final clash against Kaizer Chiefs.

Chiefs will travel to Durban to square off against the in-form Thwihli Thwahla on a date that is yet to be announced by the PSL.

The Soweto giants defeated the KZN-based outfit 2-0 in January when the two sides clashed in the DStv Premiership.

With Chiefs seemingly finding a good vein of form recently, Zondo has disclosed things that worry him about Arthur Zwane’s side.

WHAT WORRIES ROYAL AM’S KHABO ZONDO

“The worrying thing about facing Kaizer Chiefs is set pieces,” Khabo Zondo told the media after the Nedbank Cup draw.

“They have quite strong tall players and when it comes to set pieces they are fine-tuned.

“Anything around the defensive line, there’s Keagan Dolly who is in fine-tuned in hitting those.

“You probably [saw] how they scored against us in the league. We went to sleep.

“So we have to rectify certain things that we couldn’t do right the last match that we played against them.

Thwihli Thwahla have in the past dominated the fixtures against Chiefs.

AM have won three out of four matches played between the two clubs since 2021.

However, Zondo further admitted that being underdogs may work in their favour to overcome Chiefs.

“We are underdogs and we are happy with that status because Kaizer Chiefs is under pressure to win cup matches and bring trophies to Naturena.

“I just hope that on the day they put their foot right.

“should they not put their foot right they will be under pressure from their supporters,” added the former Golden Arrows mentor.

The Shawn Mkhize-owned team has turned the corner since John Maduka rejoined them for his second stint in February.

After finishing third on the Premiership table last season, Royal AM have had an inconsistent run of form which saw them make numerous changes in the technical team.
