Rulani Mokwena not fazed by ‘underdog’ tag against Chiefs
Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena admits his side are underdogs ahead of their blockbuster encounter against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday. He, however, says the tag does not faze them, and they are not pressured.
Masandawana are coming from a one-nil TS Galaxy defeat, whilst Amakhosi are a motivated side after cruising to a 3-0 victory over Maritzburg United.
“The game will be won on the pitch that’s why we welcomed the tag [underdogs] because the tag won’t play on the pitch. We don’t have the right at the moment. It’s okay. We lost the previous match, and Chiefs won,” Mokwena told the media.
“We will approach the game with utmost humility and accept we are underdogs. That gives us no pressure, which is good.”
“We know we have a difficult game for us on Saturday, but we love difficult games, and we have the necessary experience to be able to deal with difficult matches.”
The ex-Orlando Pirates mentor praised the Soweto giants for their business during the transfer window, singling out coach Arthur Zwane for the new vision he has brought to the club.
They [Kaizer Chiefs] have a good coach and significantly a good squad. The squad that they have is able to play the game they speak about; aggressive pressing. Its like the team has taken a different direction, particularly from the vision of the club.”
“Their strategy in the transfer market and also promote; give opportunities to youngsters looks like the cycle is changing. It’s changing from how the vision has been set. They have resorted to young players like Yusuf Maart and Ashley Du Preez,” he added.
The mouth-watering encounter headlining DStv Premiership matchweek three kicks off at Loftus Versfeld at 3pm. The hosts will be hoping to win it to quickly get back to winning ways after the midweek setback while Chiefs want to build on their morale-boosting win over Maritzburg this week.
