Rulani Mokwena on how Sundowns are dealing with jam-packed schedule

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has revealed how his side are dealing with the jam-packed schedule of games.

Masandawana have played a total of seven matches since the resumption of the DStv Premiership after the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar ended.

In all those matches, the team has been in great form. They have been victorious in all the matches.

“We knew about the [tough] schedule going into the mid-season break; we worked a little bit harder trying to train every player and make sure every player is ready,” Mokwena told the media.

“The only solution to hectic schedule is freshness, rotation and making everyone part of the process.

“The others have played only three or four [matches]; we’ve played seven in 24 days. It’s not easy because that means there is no training and there is not enough time.”

Mokwena further stated one element that keeps his team going and grinding the results.

“In a big club, you’ve to be always ready two-three days; the depth allows us to give opportunities confidently to each and every player in the team.

“We are working a little bit harder to make sure we improve the team, improve the individual players within the team,” he added.

On Saturday, the Tshwane giants host in-form Sekhukhune United, who have been doing good under new coach Brandon Truter. Mokwena expects a tough encounter as the match takes place in a few days time.

“Tough team, they have good experienced players in the team. It’s going to be a difficult game, now he’s recovering, try to get back to Johannesburg, lots of fluid and lots of rest for the players,” Mokwena added.

Kickoff at Loftus Versfeld Stadium is at 3:30pm.
