Rulani Mokwena points out an area to improve for Cassius Mailula
"So much to improve, one action on the transition there, the decision-making lets him down." - Rulani Mokwena.
Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has pointed out where the in-form youngster Cassius Mailula should better his game.
Despite having been highly commended by many, Mailula still has so much to do to refine his game according to Sundowns gaffer.
The 21-year-old was on the scoresheet when Sundowns overpowered Orlando Pirates in a DStv Premiership match on Saturday at a packed Orlando Stadium in Soweto.
Mailula scored the only goal of the match to inspire the Tshwane giants to their 15th straight win in the league.
Mokwena says Mailula has to work on his decision-making in the final third. He believes that with more experience, the Sundowns academy product will get it right.
RULANI MOKWENA ON WHERE CASSIUS MAILULA MUST IMPROVE
“Don’t watch the goal, watch the contributions throughout the 90 minutes,” he told the media.
“So much to improve, one action on the transition there, the decision-making lets him down.
“Still very young, still so much coaching to be done. But as I said a couple of weeks ago, offensive players have to improve by experiencing the situations and getting better.
“Very proud of him, very proud of the team but we still have a lot of work to do to improve.”
Mailula, who hails from Ga-Molepo, Limpopo, emerged as a star from nowhere at the beginning of the season after earning a promotion to the first team.
He got an opportunity to be Sundowns’ main man upfront in Peter Shalulile’s absence after the Namibian suffered an injury in October.
This was a blessing in disguise for Mailula who stepped up and replicated Shalulile’s heroics, scoring crucial goals for the Brazilians.
In 16 matches he’s played across all competitions, he has rattled the back of the net on eleven occasions with three assists to his name.
With Mamelodi Sundowns set to face big guns in the CAF Champions League, surely that exposure will offer the youngster some much-needed experience.
