Sergio Almenara picks two players who’ve been consistent for Orlando Pirates
Orlando Pirates assistant coach Sergio Almenara has picked two players who’ve been consistent for the club in recent weeks.
Almenara singled out Monnapule Saleng and Sipho Chane as two players doing right to stay in the starting XI.
Coach Jose Riveiro gave the duo an opportunity to showcase their talent. Since then, they haven’t looked back as they have impressed each time they are in the field.
Saleng’s first match was in October in the MTN8 semi-final, first leg. To this day, he has scored nine goals and provided four assists in 16 matches in all competitions.
New signing Chaine has also been doing well in between the sticks. He has made eight appearances and kept two clean sheets after he was handed his debut in January against Cape Town City.

According to Almenara, the players who stay longer in the starting suit the style of play and their game plans.
“Players are coming and going [in the starting lineup]. Players who are staying more time in the starting eleven is because they are giving what we are looking for,” Almenara told the media.
“They can give us what we are looking for in the game model and especially with their own profile. It’s a process nonstop.
“You start the season with your game model, then try to progress during the training sessions or training drills.
“In the end, what we looking for is the progression during the whole season. Game 30, which we going to play at the end of the season, is going to be our progression of the game model. So we using the games to progress our game model.”
Making fewer changes in the starting eleven has helped the Soweto giants gel and revive their form. The Bucs have won three matches out of four.
Their latest victory against Maritzburg United saw them move up to third in the log standings.
