Shabba and Yeye remain Chiefs’ best gifts of the last ten years, says Chirambadare

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Edmore Chirambadare has handpicked Siphiwe Tshabalala and Reneilwe Letsholonyane as the best players ever to grace Amakhosi in the last ten years.

According to the 30-year-old Zimbabwean, ‘Shabba’ and ‘Yeye’ were a fibre that tied the Soweto giants when the team lost their mojo.

The Venda Football Academy left winger, Chirambadare, spent one-and-half season at the Naturena, and he is convinced the telepathic duo to remain Chiefs’ best gift of the decade.

“They are probably the team’s best gifts of the last ten years,” Chirambadare told FARPost.

“I had an opportunity to play with them, and to be honest, I’m yet to see another pair that could drive the team like what they did.

“For me, Shabba remains the best I ever played with because he was down to earth and very consistent on the field of player. We kind of played the same position.

“He was that kind of player who would push us without even saying a word, especially in training. He remains my best. I respect him.

“We were good teammates, supporting each other when it was needed. I give him credit because he is one player who helped me settle in the team.”

Shabba spent eleven years in the Amakhosi ranks from 2007 to 2018, while Yeye was part of the club from 2006 to 2016.

Together, they helped the club win several trophies, including the Premiership title, and they remain popular for their exploits at Bafana Bafana Level.

Meanwhile, after leaving Chiefs, Letsholonyane joined SuperSport United before a later move to Highlands Park, whose franchise was sold to TS Galaxy.

Yeye retired from football in July 2021. His partner, Tshabalala, left Amakhosi to join Turkish outfit BB Erzurumpspor in 2018.

However, his stay in Turkey was short as he fell by the wayside after the club succumbed to financial difficulties.

He would later join AmaZulu, on a stint that also failed to last as initially expected due to a frosty relationship with the then-coach Benni McCarthy.

Tshabalala stated that he is still an active professional footballer searching for the right offer.
