Sibisi: Why I’m thriving at Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates centre back Nkosinathi Sibisi has revealed why he is thriving at Orlando Pirates.

Many players tend to struggle upon joining big DStv Premiership clubs because of the pressure to deliver good performances and be consistent.

So far, Sibisi has featured in all nine Pirates’ matches in all competitions and has already opened his goal account for the club.

“Its been quite a ride for me, came here first game got the man of the match and second game I scored. For me it’s been quite fantastic,” Sibisi told the media.

GOOD DEFENCE PARTNERS…

Sibisi revealed that having quality partners have helped him to hit the ground running. He has played with different partners depending of the coach’s game plan and approach towards their opponents.

“It doesn’t matter who is playing, I’ve played with [Olisa] Ndah, played with [Innocent] Maela and played with [Tapelo] Xoki,” he said.

?It doesn’t matter who is there as long as the person is doing the job. I don’t think I can pick who I prefer playing with.”

GREW UP SUPPORTING BUCS

Growing up, Sibisi was a die hard Orlando Pirates supporter. Like any other young boy dreaming to make it in football he imagined himself playing for the team one day.

“Once and always! Even if you ask my family they will tell you that at a young age I was supporting Pirates. I was reflecting on a 2011 moment when Pirates won a treble. I can recall a goal that was scored by Isaac Chansa, my friends and I were over the moon not know this time this year i will be here.”

FAMILIAR FACES

Finding familiar faces at the club also helped Sibisi to feel at home and settle in very well. He has played with some players at Bafana Bafana and he worked with assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi at Golden Arrows. “I think it’s the people around who helped me, there are guys I played with in the national team. Some [guys] we even come from the same province like [Siphesihle] Ndlovu and [Bandile] Shandu. They made it easy for me to settle down. Coach Mandla [Ncikazi] also helped, he’s the first person I interacted with when I first got here.”

STYLE OF PLAY

One important factor contributing to Sibisi thriving at the Soweto giants outfit is the style of play. According to him, the playing style suits him well and he understands what coach Jose Riveiro wants.

“I had to reason and see myself in the team before coming to the team. The coach is a good coach he wants the best out of us. I think the way we play, the way we showcase ourselves it’s how he reflects. I think we’ll do well under him,” he concluded.
