Sibisi’s warning to teammates ahead of the Soweto derby
Orlando Pirates defender Nkosinathi Sibisi has warned his teammates not to underestimate rivals Kaizer Chiefs ahead of the Soweto derby in the DStv Premiership on Saturday.
Amakhosi have been struggling for form since the beginning of the campaign blowing hot and cold, whilst Pirates seem to have found their groove.
Sibisi anticipates a tough encounter because it’s a derby, with bragging rights at stake. According to him, when it comes to the derby, form doesn’t count. Players will be playing for pride, history, supporters and the badge.
“We can’t write them off [Kaizer Chiefs] simple because they have been struggling with form. I think, like in any derby, form counts for nothing. It’s a big team, Kaizer Chiefs is a big team. If they get a result against us, we will be talking a different story,” Sibisi told the media.
“We have to take the game very seriously. What happened the previous week and what’s happening now is totally different. We need the points, we need to keep on climbing up the table.
“It’s very important for us to be consistent in the league because that’s what we fighting for; the championship. I’ve seen the guys at training, the attitude is positive and hopefully we’ll get a positive result.”
Sibisi who has impressed since joining the Sea Robbers from Golden Arrows made a big promise to The Happy People if he’s given an opportunity to play in his first Soweto derby
“It’s been a quite smooth transition, even myself I didn’t think it will be smooth as this. It goes with all the hard work I’ve put in, I’m glad it’s finally paying off.
“I can’t get ahead of myself, but if I’m chosen to play I promise The Bucs faithful my utmost best,” Sibisi added.
The much anticipated first Soweto derby, post COVID-19 era kicks off at FNB Stadium at 15:30.
