Six players to watch out for in Sundowns-Chiefs showdown

Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs headline DStv matchweek three as the two sides renew their rivalry. The much-anticipated game promises to be interesting, with many players ready to prove themselves in the showdown. The last time the two sides battled out in May ended in a 1-1 stalemate.

FARPost looks at six players who can make a massive difference in the game on Saturday.

Peter Shalulile

The Namibian striker who won the 2021/22 Top scorer award with 24 goals will be aiming to find his scoring boots again. Shalulile is yet to find the back of the net this season after failing to do so in the last two matches. There is no better time for him to open his account for the season against rivals Amakhosi.

Zitha Kwinika

The newly signed defender will have the difficult task of dealing with Peter Shalulile for 90 minutes. The 28-year-old vice-captain has to lead from the back to ensure that his defence is not exposed and they concede goals. Kwinika and co will be aiming to keep their second successive clean sheet following an impressive 3-0 victory against Maritzburg United last time.

Ashley Du Preez

The former Stellenbosch FC ace will aim to continue scoring goals for his new side. Du Preez opened his scoring account in Amakhosi colours when they defeated the Team of Choice three nil. However, it won’t be a leisurely walk in the park on Saturday as Du Preez has to deal with Masandawana’s defence before facing new goalie Ronwen Williams.

Ronwen Williams

The Bafana Bafana will be one of the players to watch out for. The newly signed shot-stopper will aim to prove to the coaches and Yellow Nation why he should be the club’s number one ahead of an experienced trio of Dennis Onyango, Kennedy Mweene and Reyaad Pieterse. The 30-year-old will, however, have a problematic afternoon dealing with Khama Billiat, Ashley Du Preez and Keagan Dolly.

Yusuf Maart

Yusuf Maart will be aiming to boss the midfield again as he did against Maritzburg United. For his dazzling performance in the middle of the park, he was rewarded with a man of the match award.

Tebogo Mokoena

The 25-year-old has been in great form since joining Masandawana. His aim on Saturday will be to dominate the midfield and push balls forward to the attackers in a drive to bounce back to winning ways.
