Sometimes we have ourselves to blame as players – Dolly

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Keegan Dolly has admitted that the lack of success at the club this season is hard to accept and players should also take the blame.

Dolly was a marquee signing for Amakhosi after a four-year stint at France side Montpellier.

But the first season back in South Africa has not been ideal for the Bafana Bafana player, as his club failed to win a single trophy.

This is also the seventh straight season that Chiefs have gone a season without a trophy.

“I knew that coming here there is a high possibility of winning and challenging for all trophies,” Dolly said during a media briefing on Thursday ahead of their League match against Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday.

“Now that we didn’t win anything this season it is always hard for me to accept that because of the calibre of players we have and the team we have at Chiefs.

“Sometimes you sit back and you think ‘am I doing enough as a player? But at the end of the day, it’s not a one man show it’s the whole team. We really have ourselves to blame as players you know,” he said.

“At times we created silly mistakes that cost us games but that’s part of football, you can keep on living in the past we have to focus on the future and just try to give back to the club what they have given us as players we really need to put up our socks together as players and find ways to improve our performances.”
