Sundowns’ Mngqithi outlines Mudau’s attributes

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi has outlined Khuliso Mudau’s attributes.

Mngqithi rates the defender as one of the best fullback in South Africa, but highlighted on the areas he needs to improve on.

Mudau has been key for Sundowns, especially last season when they won a treble. He has been consistent in the field of play whenever given an opportunity to play.

“He’s probably one of the best fullbacks in the country, if I’m honest not talking because he’s my player. I think in the games against La Passe he had two assists,” Mngqithi told the media.

“Mudau is one fullback that has got a dribble, he’s a full back that has got a pass, a full back that is string aerially, a fullback that has got a cut back.

“Personally, I’m optimistic that if he’s available for the Saturday match, we will get a shot at goal.”

Despite the praises, Mngqithi revealed the areas Mudau need to improve on.

The Downs mentor highlighted the final third as the major area.

“I don’t think he’s terrible in the final third. The only area of his game that still needs a lot of attention is when he makes a decision to put a cross,” he added.

“We’ve scored a goal from Mudau and Pavol (Safranko] last season if I remember against [Golden] Arrows if I’m not mistaken.

“He’s crossing ability still has a lot of question marks, but a lot of cut backs that he plays are always dangerous. He’s got the right nerve in the final third, when he decides to go for a cut back which is more of a pass than just a cross,” Mngqithi added.

Mngqithi will be expecting Mudau to display anither brilliant performance when they off against Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 semi final second leg. The first leg ended in a one all draw at Orlando Stadium.

Kickoff at Peter Mokaba Stadium is at 15:30.
