Mamelodi Sundowns continued with their scintillating form in the DStv Premiership as they beat Richards Bay 2-0 at the King Zwelithini Stadium in KwaZulu-Natal on Friday evening.
The victory over the Premiership rookies, Richards Bay was Sundowns’ ninth in a row.
The Tshwane giants are yet to concede or drop points in five matches since Rulani Mokwena took over as the club’s head coach.
Prior to traveling to KZN, Umlazi, Sundowns ended 2022 on a high with a win over Orlando Pirates and started the new year with a bang by beating another Soweto, side Swallows on Tuesday.
Against Richards Bay, it was the man of the moment, Cassius Mailula, who opened the scoring six minutes before the half-time break. Aubrey Modiba provided the assist.

It was Mailula’s fifth goal in five league games as Sundowns completely dominated the first 45 minutes of the game, with the hosts failing to trouble the defending champions.
And Mokwena’s troops took the game to Richards Bay in the second half, leading matters and camping in the opposition half.
The home side buckled under pressure as Haashim Domingo, who had missed several chances in the first stanza made it 2-0 in the 66th minute.
Sudowns do not appear like a side that will lose their supremacy in the league any time soon.
They are sitting pretty at the summit of the log standings with 37 points after 15 matches in the league, 10 points ahead of second-placed SuperSport United.
Meanwhile, the defeat sees Natal Rich Boys’ impressive nine-match unbeaten run end.
And the the KZN side remain in third place on the DStv Premiership standings.
In another league game at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto, Swallows comfortably beat Chippa United 2-0.
Mbulelo Wambi and Kagiso Malinga found the back of the net for Swallows.
The win marked Ernst Middendorp’s first as Swallows head coach after suffering back-to-back defeats against Richards Bay and Sundowns in his opening two games in charge.
The Dube Birds move up to 12th place on the log, three points above the relegation zone, while Chippa are in sixth place on 19 points after 15 games.
