Sundowns slip to shock defeat against SuperSport
Defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns suffered a shock defeat at the hands of city rivals SuperSport on Friday evening.
It was their second loss in the DStv Premiership, just six rounds into the 2022/23 season.
Sundowns were facing the same team they beat 2-0 on Sunday in the MTN8 quarterfinal.
Despite enjoying the bigger share of possession, Sundowns conceded two first half goals.
SuperSport got their opener through Thapelo Maseko in the ninth minute before Bradley Grobler added the second at the stroke of half time.
In the second half, Sundowns continues with their dominance, averaging a ball possession of 75 to 25 percent.
However, they were often met by a resistant SuperSport who sat back resolutely.
After six shots on target, they eventually got their facesaver during injury time.
It came through new signing Abubeker Nasir, who has registered three goals since making his move from Ethiopian Coffee SC.
His first goal came in the 4-0 demolition of Kaizer Chiefs before adding another on Sunday.
Sundowns, who have collected 10 points from six games, are second behind Orlando Pirates [11 points from six] who play Maritzburg United on Sunday.
