Sundowns strike late to down Usuthu, while Richards Bay, Galaxy share spoils

DStv Premiership reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns continued with their winning ways on Sunday afternoon at Loftus Versfeld Stadium as they defeated AmaZulu 1-0.

Chile international Marcelo Allende scored a stoppage time winner in the 91st minute to give Masandawana all three points and break Usuthu’s hearts in the process.

The new arrival scored his second goal for the Tshwane giants, starting life in South Africa’s topflight on a high note.

The first half was less in action as both teams couldn’t find the back of the net despite creating several opportunities to score.

Bafana Bafana attacker Themba Zwane hit the post in the 17th minute, whilst Keagan Buchanan missed a golden chance to put AmaZulu in front in the 36th minute.

Therefore, both teams went at the break deadlocked at 0-0.

The second half saw the introduction of Sundowns new signings, Terrence Mashego and Bongani Zungu.

Mashego was making his debut after recently joining the club from Cape Town City, while Zungu was making his much-anticipated return to Sundowns.

Sundowns’ third victory on a row saw them cement their spot at the summit of the log by five points despite playing a game more.

The Tshwane giants have accumulated 19 points from nine matches. On another hand, Galaxy’s loss placed them 10th heading into the international break

In another encounter played on Sunday, newcomers Richards Bay and TS Galaxy drew.

The dull encounter ended in a nil all draw as both sides couldn’t find the back of the net in 90 minutes.

The stalemate left the Natal Rich Boyz and The Rockets third and sixth respectively on the DStv Premiership.
