The Sundowns teammate who preaches motivation to Promise Mkhuma

Mamelodi Sundowns loanee Promise Mkhuma has revealed a teammate who constantly preaches motivation to him about working his way back to Chloorkop.

The out-of-favour Mkhuma and his other Downs teammate Keletso Makgalwa joined the second-tier side All Stars on loan in January.

This was after they returned from unsuccessful loan spells. Mkhuma couldn’t register at Swallows, while Makgalwa was sent back to Sundowns by TS Galaxy after struggling for game time.

Mkhuma says he still talks to Cassius Mailula, with whom he shared a dressing room in the development.

He says Mailula encourages him never to despair as he feels that they have unfinished business together in the Brazilians’ colours.

He went on to express his happiness to see the Limpopo-born striker high-flying in the maiden season with the first team.

“I’m so happy also to see Cassius [Mailula]. We came to Sundowns together,” he said.

“He always encourages me to say, ‘push and come back, man, so that we’ll work together’.

“So, that’s my hope to work harder here and then start the next season with Sundowns.”

Mkhuma emerged as the finest youngster during Pitso Mosimane’s tenure. He was tied to a five-year deal upon promotion to the first team in 2020.

He hasn’t lived up to the promise he displayed during his time with the reserve team. However, the 22-year-old is yet to back down from hoping for a return to Masandawana.

‘AIM IS TO GO BACK TO SUNDOWNS’

“My aim is to go back to Sundowns,” he added. “That’s where I was born; that’s where I started playing football.

“And it encourages me to see the youngsters being given a chance. Because when you’re given a chance, you must use it.”
