SuperSport’s Arendse wary of Deon Hotto threat

Supersport United interim coach Andre Arendse says their fate of securing a top-eight spot lies in their own hands as they are preparing to face Orlando Pirates on Monday in a must-win encounter for their last game of the 2021/22 DStv Premiership season.

Matsatsantsa are ninth on the log with 37 points, three points shy from eighth-placed Golden Arrows. A victory for the Tshwane outfit on Monday will see them leapfrog Arrows and secure a spot on the top half of the log.

“It’s a must-win game for us currently. As it stands, we are just outside the top eight. The game is in our own hands; it certainly eases the pressure and, at the same time, increases the focus levels we need against a team like Orlando Pirates. It will be critical for us to find the balance in how we approach the game and set up,” said Arendse.

“I feel it’s a game that we have to make it about ourselves and not concern ourselves too much and in-depth about the opposition because the focus has to be on us and how we set up.”

The former Bafana goalkeeper warned his charges to be aware of Buccaneers’ talisman Deon Hotto as he can punish them.

“Their front three has been on form, spearheaded by the likes of Deon Hotto. For me, he’s a player who have been massive for the club this season, whether he’s working on an open play or set pieces. He always poses danger to any team for Orlando Pirates,” he concluded.

Kickoff at Lucas Moripe Stadium is at 18:00.
