The one position Chiefs still need to fill

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender David Kannemayer believes the club’s business in the transfer market is not yet done despite bringing eight new faces at Naturena, including DDC graduate Mduduzi Shabalala ahead of the new season next month.

Amakhosi released 14 players as part of the rebuilding phase. Amongst the outcasts were strikers Samir Nurkovic, Leonardo Castro and Lazarous Kambole. In feeling the void in the striking department, the club acquired the services of Stellenbosch ace Ashley Du Preez.

The 44-year-old suggests his former club should sign a proper number nine striker to fill the gap outright.

“They must get one or two strikers to the squad for more options in front. A proper striker, look they let go of three strikers then got Ashley [Du Preez] an outstanding player, but he’s not a natural number nine,” Kannemayer told FARPost.

“The question is, are they going to get their man? We don’t know. The club must dig deep in their pockets and get the player they want. This will help to challenge for trophies next season going on.”

Kannemayer further suggested the strikers that would be suitable at Chiefs.

“Ruzaigh Gamildien of Swallows would fit at Chiefs. He’s a good striker and can score goals. Royal AM’s Victor Letsoalo is also a perfect fit. Then there is Young Africans of Tanzania striker Fiston Mayele, a top striker who has been linked to the club. The trick is to pay the required amount, then they will get their man,” Kannemayer concluded.
