The one pressing need Kaizer Chiefs have ahead of January window

Kaizer Chiefs legend David Kannemayer has identified the one pressing need the club has ahead of the January transfer window.

The Soweto giants were one of the busiest clubs during the winter window period. They brought in many new faces after releasing some players as part of the rebuilding phase under coach Arthur Zwane.

However, Kannemayer believes there is one missing piece of the puzzle. Amakhosi have been struggling to score goals, and new acquisitions Ashley Du Preez and Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana have been inconsistent in converting the opportunities, missing clear-cut chances.

KAIZER CHIEFS SHOULD HUNT FOR STRIKER

Therefore, Kannemayer suggests Chiefs should go out and hunt for a striker that will score more goals for the club.

“They need a lethal striker, in my opinion. I think they haven’t been scoring a lot of goals. They have been creating a lot of opportunities, yes, but they have not been putting the ball at the back of the net,” Kannemayer told FARPost.

“I think they should go out and look for a good number nine that can put the goal at the back of the net.

“The strikers that were brought in are failing to perform. A striker’s job is simply to score goals. Without goals, it means they are not doing what is required of them.

“Goals win you matches. With goals, you can boost your chances of winning titles. It’s a striker’s job to put the ball at the back of the net.”

THE BACKLINE

So far this season, Chiefs have scored 16 goals from 13 DStv Premiership matches. The attackers Keagan Dolly, Mduduzi Shabalala and Ashley Du Preez, Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana, have contributed 12 goals. Khama Billiat is yet to score a goal this season.

The defence and midfield are other positions that the club tried fixing. The backline have started to be consistent in keeping clean sheets, and the midfield is now stable and well-organised.
