Brandon Truter makes Zuma, Mhango promise

AmaZulu head coach Brandon Truter has made a promise regarding his new recruits at AmaZulu – Dumisani Zuma and Gabadinho Mhango.

The Usuthu mentor is optimistic he will get the better out of the former Kaizer Chiefs player, Zuma, as well as ex-Orlando Pirates striker, Mhango.

Both Zuma and Mhango were signed by Usuthu during the current transfer window period.

They come from a season to forget after failing to secure the much-needed regular game time.

Zuma’s departure at Amakhosi was also marred by controversy after having been accused of ill discipline. Mhango, on the other hand, despite having an outstanding Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) tournament in Cameroon, only managed to play in five league matches.

Speaking to FARPost during their off-season camp at the Ranch in Polokwane on Tuesday, Truter insists both players are capable of turning their fortunes around if they acclimatise to the new environment.

“First thing with man management and psychology is that you need to understand them (players). You need to understand what environment they come from, you need to understand what challenges they faced in the past,” said Truter.

“Also, you need to understand what made them tick. Zuma at his best is easily unstoppable, as is Gabadinho as well. As a coach you need to go back to these things, you need to find out what makes them tick.

“There are coaches who have worked with them and players why they have faced and these are people you need to talk to and find out and that’s exactly what I did so I think I have the right ingredient to get him back where he (Zuma) was, for both of them actually,” added Truter.

“I don’t want to judge anybody on his past, let’s start on a clean slate. There is always managing and keeping them happy. It’s a different camp they are coming into. The culture at AmaZulu is different to other clubs and they have to respect that so it’s a case of when in Rome do what the Romans do.”
