We know the ugly consequences of relegation – Makume

Baroka captain and defender Bonginkosi Makume says the consensus amongst everyone at the club is to fight until the end in order to save their jobs.

Bakgaga are undefeated in their last three matches since Vincent Kobola took over as coach. They face a Maritzburg United side that is just three points above them and also not safe from facing the chop.

Makume who has scored three of the six goals for the bottom of the log club in the last three encounters has spoken out about the mindset of the players going into the last match of the season.

“It’s very tough knowing that when you get relegated, some (players) won’t get teams, some will get, so the conversation is to fight for what we have now because you can not be guaranteed a job after you are relegated to a team,” said Makume.

“It’s not a good thing to go down or go to another team knowing that you relegated the previous club that you were playing for.

“We should just remain humble and go to Maritzburg to fight hard and we must not let the results we got against SuperSport United get into our heads. We just have to keep our heads down and go there, fight for the team and for the badge and hopefully, we will come up with three points or positive results,” he said.

The 26-year-old has also spoken about the responsibility of being the penalty taker and the pressure that comes with it even though he has a 100% conversion rate so far.

“It’s already heavy because you are having a (captain) armband on your arm. So going there you know that everyone is depending on you and you just have to pick your spot and convert the penalty but the pressure we are getting used to, we are professionals we have to get used to it.”
