What Jomo Sono told Bimenyimana after debut

Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana’s agent has shared what Jomo Sono told his client after his Kaizer Chiefs debut earlier this month.

The Burundian struck twice in his debut against SuperSport on 18 September.

Chiefs won the tie 2-1 after coming from behind at the FNB Stadium, thanks to Bimenyimana’s brace.

SuperSport’s Grant Magerman had opened the scoring on the day before a goal in each half saw Amakhosi collect maximum points.

Rui Frois of FTI Soccer Academy has since revealed that the striker had a heart-to-heart conversation with the legendary former Orlando Pirates ace.

“He had a conversation with Jomo after the 2-0 win over SuperSport recently.

“Jomo reminded him that Valery Nahayo started off with him at Jomo Cosmos before moving to Chiefs.

“He then told him what it took to succeed at a club like Chiefs.

“He said he must take responsibility and have the mentality of a big player because there is a lot of expectation on him as a foreigner,” Frois told FARPost.

Bimenyimana in action against SuperSport

Frois’ interpretation of what ‘Bra J’ was saying is that The Swallows star must lead from the front and not be afraid to take responsibility.

The 24-year-old has already demonstrated it after his decision to take the penalty that earned Chiefs maximum points against SuperSport.

In a surprise move, Bimenyimana stepped up to take the spot kick.

“Remember twice this season Chiefs have missed penalties. So for him to be brave enough to take responsibility shows the calibre of player he is,” Rui added.

Khama Billiat missed a penalty against Mamelodi Sundowns in Chiefs’ biggest loss of the season. They lost the tie 4-0.

Dillan Solomons also missed from the spot when Chiefs played a goalless draw against AmaZulu.

Bimenyimana will be hoping to continue from where he left off when they host AmaZulu at FNB on Sunday. They clash in the first leg of the MTN8 semifinal.
