What Lakay thinks about Stellenbosch without Ashley du Preez
Mamelodi Sundowns left-back Lyle Lakay has admitted that their DStv Premiership encounter against Stellenbosch FC on Wednesday afternoon will be a tough one even without talisman Ashley du Preez.
Last season the Capetonians proved to be a headache for the Tshwane giants. They outclassed the reigning DStv Premiership champions in both legs, collecting four points; a draw and a win.
“Our two previous matches against Stellenbosch, if you have been watching those games, I won’t say struggling, but they have been a tough opponent to us. Last season we drew the away leg, then they won the second leg here,” Lakay told the club media.
“We know Stellenbosch as a young team, full of energy and lots of pace. They lost [Ashley] Du Preez to Chiefs.
“Even without him, they are still a threat to youngsters in the team. If you look at their recent form in the league, they’ve been in the high.”
The 30-year-old is confident the team will cause an upset come Wednesday at their home ground.
“We looking forward to it and the guys are ready, we motivated. We going out there for three points.
“We were disappointed with the previous result against Sekhukhune, but we over the previous result. With us being professionals we have to focus on the next assignment; Stellenbosch.”
“We do analysis like we do on every other team, try and figure out their strong points. We’ll try to rectify what we did wrong in the previous game so we can correct it.
“We want to go out there and win the game,” he added.
The two teams are aiming at getting back to winning ways. They were both held to one all stalemates against Sekhukhune United and Cape Town City respectively last time out.
Kickoff at Loftus Versfeld is at 5pm.
