Who is the worst coach in the DStv Premiership this season?

At this point of the season, it is undoubted that Mamelodi Sundowns’ Rulani Mokwena is poised to be the DStv Premiership Coach of the Season.

Mamelodi Sundowns’ Rulani Mokwena has been impressive since taking full control of the Tshwane giants as head coach.

Arguably, there is no strong competition for the DStv Premiership coach of the season.

However, the question, who is the worst coach in the current DStv Premiership campaign lingers.

When things go wrong at a club, it is mostly the coach who has to bear the brunt of being lambasted.

And among the remaining DStv Premiership coaches, it is Romain Folz who emerges as the worst.

WHY ROMAIN FOLZ IS THE WORST COACH THIS SEASON

Folz has not lived upto his biling despite initially receiving massive backing from the AmaZulu leadership.

The Frenchman, who recently signed a three-year contract extension with the club presided over 27 games before being redeployed.

He led the team to victory on four occasions, with 15 draws and eight defeats. This translates to a paltry 14.8 % success rate.

Sadly despite having one of the best squads in the DStv Premiership, AmaZulu find themselves fixated on 12th.

They are a few points adrift of the relegation zone.

And as the 32-year-old was redeployed by the Sandile Zungu-led management, he remains the worst coach this season.

It remains to be seen if he survives until his new contract starts, but it is clear that the youthful coach was not the right man to lead Usuthu.

Folz led the club to the MTN8 final where they lost 1-0 to Orlando Pirates last year.

That was AmaZulu’s first final since 2010

This perhaps goes in history as his best achievement at the Durban based club.

THE OTHER STRUGGLING PSL COACHES

Moreso the 2022/23 season has had many thrills and spills, with some clubs swapping hands from one coach to another.

As usual, Chippa United started the season with Daine Klate at the helm.

Klate was fired after seven games and was replaced by Morgan Mammilla who also lost his job after six months.

Kurt Lentjies has since been tasked to save the team as the interim head coach.

Even, the seasoned tactician gaffer Ernst Middendorp had a forgettable spell at Swallows FC in the 11 games that he presided.

The former Kaizer Chiefs coach left Swallows in the relegation matrix after managing three wins. They drew on two occasions while losing six times.

Zimbabwean gaffer Kaitano Tembo also lost his job at Sekhukune because of poor results.

Before being sacked in November last year, John Maduka had one of the worst records while at the helm of Maritzburg.

Maduka presided over 13 matches in all competitions where the club registered two wins, five defeats and six draws

Meanwhile the likes of Fadlu Davids and Brandon Truter have had mixed fortunes but are yet to bite the dust.
