Why Dylan Kerr will miss Cape Town City tie

Swallows FC coach Dylan Kerr is set to miss Swallows’s second game of the season when they take on Cape Town City in a DStv Premiership encounter on Tuesday evening.

Kerr is a disappointed man following a delay in sorting out this work permit for the 2022/23 season. The delay forced the Maltese mentor to watch their season’s opening game against Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates on Saturday from the stands. Swallows, led by player-coach Musa Nyatama, suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat.

With the slow process in the work permit procedures, ex-Pirates man Nyatama will likely be in charge once more on Tuesday evening when AmaSwaiSwai host Cape Town City.

“How hard is it to change the date from 2021/22 to 2022/23? How difficult is it? It’s wrong. I can’t do my job in the second tier of the stadium, and my job is in jeopardy,” Kerr told FARPost.

Coach Dylan Kerr is happy with his troops

Despite the loss, the TTM Nedbank Cup-winning coach was happy with his troops’ performance, especially in the second half. “We played at Orlando Stadium, the first game of the season against Pirates, we weren’t favourites, but in the second half, that performance showed me we got character.”

The mentor is optimistic about a great season ahead following the signings they made during the transfer market after parting ways with several players at the 2021/22 season. The Dobsonville Stadium outfit bolstered their squad by signing Keegan Allan, Lindokuhle Mtshali, Waseem Isaacs and Kwanda Mngonyama.

“I feel we got a good squad and good players. We are going to surprise people. Obviously, everybody is expecting miracles.”

The 55-year-old, who joined the club for a short spell in the 2021/22 season before signing a long-term contract, aims to ensure the Dube Birds finish in a better position.

He helped the Soweto side survive relegation in the previous campaign after finishing a 15th on the log. Kerr further saved the club’s DStv Premiership status by coming out on top ahead of the University of Pretoria and Cape Town All Stars in the promotional/relegation playoffs.
