Yusuf Maart embraces new partnership with Samkelo Zwane

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Yusuf Maart has opened up on his new partnership with Amakhosi starlet Samkelo Zwane in the middle of the park.

The duo’s partnership has caught the attention of many football fanatics following the departure of Njabulo Blom to St. Louis City in the Major League Soccer [MLS].

As a result, Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane was forced to make adjustment and come up with his preferred choice of a player for the holding midfield position, which happened to be the club’s academy product, Zwane.

When asked in an interview with the club’s media department about how he feels about playing with Zwane at at heart of the middle field, Maart said: “To have Zwane with me is good, because he’s learning what it takes to play at this level.

“I had a good partnership with Blom, but this is football and I need to be able to play with whoever is in the team.

“I think I’m clicking with everyone who is playing around me.

“At the end of the day I just need to work hard, as always.”

And the Soweto giants’ prodigy seem to have settled well in the first team set-up since his promotion from the development structures.

Shifting the focus to their game with AmaZulu on Friday, Maart insists that getting maximum points is their main objective as they have lost their previous game against Sekhukhune United.

“They lost their last game and so did we. Both of us need the points, so we are going to have to want it more than them,” he added.

“Even though it is their home game, we are going to come with more effort and make sure we get the points.

“We worked very hard during the December break and it showed in our first two games back. Unfortunately, it didn’t go our way in the last game, but we are very keen to put that right against AmaZulu.”

The game is scheduled to start at 19:30 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
