Arthur Zwane explains why Sundowns signings fit in perfectly

Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has explained why Mamelodi Sundowns signings always hit the ground running at the club.

Amakhosi made many signings during the transfer market as they are rebuilding under Zwane. However, results seem not to be going as expected following three defeats and two victories.

According to the 48-year-old, Masandawana have a proper scouting system, unlike other DStv Premiership teams. They analyse their targets not based on form with the respective club.

“It’s easy for them because they got an identity, whoever that they bring in, they must have obviously profiled him properly. That is why most of the players that are bought by Sundowns just go in and gel quickly because they’ve done properly for those players,” Zwane told the media.

“In our case, it’s been we buy a player that is doing well at his respective club with the hope that they come and do well for us. Only to find out he will take time to gel because the style of play made him shine where he comes from. The coaching style also might differ.”

The former Amakhosi winger further revealed that Sundowns’ style of play [identity] and continuity in the club has helped the team to yield better results and great success at the Tshwane giants.

“Mamelodi Sundowns have been doing well, but when you look at why Mamelodi Sundowns is doing very well, there is a way of playing that was started 10 years ago if I’m not mistaken by coach Pitso [Mosimane]. When he left, there was continuity. You cannot say the same with other teams.”

“That’s what we need to do first before we can think about winning consistently. If you don’t have an identity, you don’t know how you going to win games. You will one game, two games and think you’ve arrived or you on the right track, going forward you lose games because you have no answers.”

Zwane likened his situation to Pitso Mosimane, who admitted to having struggled at one point in his coaching career when he was still trying to find the right identity.

“If you have the way of playing, you know this is what I want to achieve. It might take some time. Coach Pitso mentioned that at one stage, it was difficult for him.”

“I’m in the same situation, but that doesn’t put fear in my heart because we have a plan as a club and that plan we are not going to lose focus because, at the moment, results are not coming our way,” Zwane added.

The Soweto giants face Stellenbosch FC on Saturday in the first quarter-final of the MTN8. Both teams are aiming to get back to winning ways after losing to Cape Town City and Mamelodi Sundowns, respectively.

Kickoff at Danie Craven is at 3pm.
