PSL to have new kid on the block
Turfloop Sports Club Limited have announced that they will participating in the Motsepe Foundation Championship in the upcoming season.
This comes after the Limpopo-based side agreed with Platinum City Rovers to purchase 50% equity from the South African football second-tier side.
Following the franchise transaction, the North West club will now be known as Turfloop City.
The club will relocate to Germiston in the Gauteng province ahead of the 2022/23 PSL season.
The new kid on the block will play its home games between Cape Town and Lephalale, in the Limpopo Province, with Germiston Stadium as an alternative venue.
“The new deal will collapse the two footballing giants into what will be known as the Turfloop City – which will be a holistic multi-sports development entity that will develop and harness a plethora of sporting codes,” said the president of the Turfloop Sports Club Limited Nakedi Malahlela II during the launch.
“This inevitable transaction will see professional football being taken to the most rural parts of the country, where professional football has never been played before.”
The club further stated that the franchise’s reserve side would continue competing in the ABC Motsepe League in the North West Province.
Meanwhile, the Wanderers Football Club – another football entity attached to the Turfloop Sports Club Limited, will participate in the ABC League in the Western Cape.
“The platinum citizens are ecstatic about being a part of this ambitious sports movement that will see football merged with the likes of Karate and Athletics,” stated City Rovers chairman Tyzer Temo.
“This project honours legends such as the legendary Sensei Esrom Mogano, Jerry Ramohlale, Baba Vilakazi, and Ludwick Mamabolo, to name just a few.
“As a family, we wish to make the dream of the young President Malahlela to bring the first professional franchise to the people of Mankweng. As a club, we would have liked to play most of our games in Turfloop. We believe in time the people of Mankweng will see their beloved club close-by.”
In addition, the club indicated that the Turfloop ‘95 FC franchise, which has been playing in the SAB Regional League – Capricorn District, will also move its games from Ga Molepo – Laastehoop to a new ground in Tshware Village – Medium Fighters.
