Mane claims he would ‘trade’ club honours for Afcon glory

Clinching the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) title is of paramount importance for Senegal’s Sadio Mane.

The Liverpool star admitted that he would even go as far as giving up all his accomplishments at level club to lift the African title.

Over the last few years, Mane has had great success at Liverpool, and played a vital role when the club won the Uefa Champions League and Premier League under Jurgen Klopp.

“When I was a kid, they called me Ballonbuwa (ball wizard), but I was always more of a Gaynde (lion): ruthless, explosive, a hunter,” said Mane in a new advert for New Balance.

“I have been hunting my whole career, but no matter what I have caught – I am still hungry.”

The 29-year-old attacker, who was a losing finalist with Senegal in 2019, will again lead the Lions of Teranga at the Afcon set to start on Sunday in Cameroon hoping to win it this time around.

“My people have waited a long time. I would trade it all to win this one. This is my time. The Lion roars.”
