Maritzburg United tie down ex-Chiefs defender with two-year deal
Maritzburg United have moved swiftly to tie down Kaizer Chiefs academy graduate Lungelo Bhengu with a two-year contract extension.
The Team of Choice have already started planning for next season, with the team releasing eight players, including seasoned campaigners Clayton Daniels and Nazeer Allie.
The Chiefs youth product made 12 appearances for Ernest Middendorp’s side in the DStv Premiership before a knee injury curtailed his season. However, that was enough to see him remain with the club beyond the just-ended season.
Maritzburg is expected to bring in 10 new signings in preparation for the upcoming season. It remains to be seen whom the new faces are going to be.
Meanwhile, Bhengu has since recovered from a knee injury and looks set to join the team during the pre-season. They report for pre-season training at the beginning of July, just five weeks before the new season starts on August 12.
The Team of Choice released Clayton Daniels, Steven Pereira, Lucky Baloyi, Nazeer Allie, Riyaaz Ismail, Phumlani Ntshangase, Ryan Rae and Thato Lesoma.
