Leopards keeper describes international break as blessing in disguise
Black Leopards goalkeeper Modoue Jobe has described the recent international football window as blessing in disguise.
The Gambian international said the window gave him time to recover from a leg injury and also helped the team to get back on its feet.
“We have had a slow start any way, three defeats out of four games and I even got injured in our third game,” he tells FARPost.
Jobe said he had resumed training and was in line for selection this weekend.
Leopards are playing away to Casric Stars on Saturday.
“The day I got injured that was our third game because I played the first, second and third game…We lost our first two games and in the third game, I got injured,” he said.
INTERNATIONAL BREAK
“I might play this weekend. To be honest with you, the Fifa break also helped me as I would have missed the weekend game.”
The keeper admitted that Lidoda Duvha have had a slow start to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
LONG OFF-SEASON BREAK
He attributed this to prolonged off-season break.
“We have a very slow start in the season probably, for my own thinking, we had a long off- season because we came thinking the season would start earlier,” he said.
“Unfortunately, they changed for a month instead of in August 2 they pushed it to September. It is really hard after training for more than two months to train for another month.”
Jobe said slowly the team, which signed new players, was gelling.
“If you don’t score you can’t win games, but also with the new players everybody is coping but slowly we will get where we want to reach,” he said.
The experienced custodian signed for Leopards last season following the expiry of his contract with Senegalese side ASEC Ndiambour.
Jobe is the number one keeper for the coach Tom Saintfiet-led Gambia that qualified for the delayed 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
He moved to Senegal after leaving the Saudi Arabian side Jeddeh FC.
Jobe was previously on the radar of South African teams such as AmaZulu FC, SuperSport United and Bloemfontein Celtic.
In the Gambia, Jobe played for Real de Banjul and Niarry Tally.
Now, the 32-year-old hopes to help Leopards to have a better season, having narrowly escaped relegation in the 2021-2022 campaign
