Nominations a reflection of Downs’ hard work: Lakay

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Lyle Lakay has sent a congratulatory message to his teammates after being nominated for the PSL Awards. The 30-year-old described his teammates’ domination in the nominations as a ‘reflection and reward for all their hard work’ this season.

Seven Masandawana players were nominated across different categories for this season’s awards; Defender of the Season, MTN8 Last Man Standing, Players’ Player of the Season, Nedbank Player of the Tournament, Midfielder of the Season and the Footballer of the Season.

“I’m humbled and grateful for the nomination. This is a reflection and reward for all the hard work we’ve put on this season, particularly myself and as a Sundowns team,” said Lakay.

“Grant [Kekana] is also there; he’s part of the nominees. I would like to congratulate all my other teammates that were nominated for other different awards: Andile Jali, Peter Shalulile, Themba Zwane, Surprise Ralani and Aubrey Modiba.”

Co-coaches Manqoba Mngqithi and Rulani Mokwena we also nominated in the Coach of the Season category. The awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, 29 May at 7pm.
