PSL keeper changes his surname

Polokwane City number one goalkeeper Harold Ndlovu (soon to be called Nkwinika) has explained why he is in the process of formally changing his last name.

Ndlovu, who made his professional debut in 2015, recently parted ways with the GladAfrica Championship side following the expiry of his short term contract.

It was his second stint at City having left in 2019 and re-joined in February 2021 on a 17 months contract which comes to an end on 30 June.

The 31-year-old explained to FARPost the decision to change his surname.

“True I am in the process of changing my surname legally to Nkwinika. The Nkwinika surname is the correct surname for me to use. I used the Ndlovu surname under my late mother’s marriage surname,” said Ndlovu.

“At the moment the issue is still internal and I honestly felt that I should or must explain this much out of respect to everyone who has been following my career.”

Ndlovu has also reflected on his second stint at Rise and Shine where he played 17 matches and kept 7 clean sheets during the first round matches of the 2021/22 GladAfrica Championship season.

“The team was doing well in the competition for the league and I was really positive about us (the team winning the league) honestly because I remember it was our wish with the team’s captain (Puleng Tlolane) our conversations were more into how to keep the team focused and fight until we were crowned the champions.

“I was really committed to trying to help myself and my teammates promote the team to the DStv premiership. Polokwane City is a big brand and I honestly believe that it deserves to be in the Premiership and unfortunately as players, we didn’t do well or much in our pursuit to help the team get a promotion,” he said.

Ndlovu has also confirmed that he will be leaving the club upon the expiry of his contract in 10 days.

“I and the club mutually agreed not to engage in a new contract because I had signed a contract with the hope that by this coming season the team will be back in the DStv premiership, but hopefully in the near future, our paths will re-join once more.

“I wish the team all the best of luck this coming season, and I am forever grateful to have been part of this big football brand in South Africa. At the moment I’m focusing on my fitness and looking forward to the future, I believe my quality will work for me and I know how hard I work so I am very positive.”
