SAFA presidential hopeful Ria Ledwaba’s bid to postpone the organisation’s elective congress will be heard at the Pretoria High Court on Wednesday.
Ledwaba has approached the court to interdict the 25 June elections, alleging that there are irregularities in the SAFA Constitution that were amended at the 26 March congress that are aimed at favouring incumbent Dr Danny Jordaan.
Jordaan (70) is vying for his third term and faces a challenge from Ledwaba and SAFA Tshwane Chairman Solly Mohlabeng.
The matter, which sits at 10am, is between Ledwaba, SAFA, all members of the Governance Committee and the Chairperson of the ethics committee Justice Sisi Khampepe.
Speaking to FARPost on Tuesday, SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan said the association respects every individual’s right to approach the courts if they feel there is injustice.
“We can not argue with people’s rights. We are a democratic country, and anyone who feels he or she has a case to present to a court, they are entitled to do so,” he said.
“There were three cases. Two of them have already been dismissed, and the last one will be tomorrow (Wednesday), and then we have to go on and finalize the elections, which I think becomes predominant,”
“If we are defocused too much, we forget that our primary task is football,” he said.
