Callies striker Mthembu speaks on his future ahead of end of contract
Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Siphelele Mthembu has spoken out about his future and revealed what he has set his sights on ahead of the next campaign with his contract at Pretoria Callies set to expire in June.
‘Shaka Zulu’, as he’s affectionately known, signed an extension with the Motsepe Foundation Championship side at the beginning of the campaign.
At the age of 36, he’s had an exciting season, scoring nine goals for the Pretoria-based side. He’s behind the Black Leopards forward Bethuel Muzeu and JDR Stars striker Prince Nxumalo who are both on 11 goals.
Mthembu says he has not felt this lively for a long time in his career and is looking to continue going strong in the next season.
He revealed that Callies are yet to present him an offer for a contract extension. And he has not ruled out a move back to the top-flight as he seeks a “last dance” before he calls it a day in football.

“Mostly, I’m fighting so much, marked by three players, sometimes two, every time my head is painful,” said Mthembu during the interview with FARPost.
“But credit must go to the coach man, I’ve never felt so young like this. I think even at work, they ask me, ‘When do you get old?’ Some are shocked, seeing miracles and be like ‘this guy’.
“I want a last dance now where I will have a laser focus – eat soccer, sleep soccer just for one year.”
He continued, “The club hasn’t said anything for now but I’m not worried because I’ve done well this season.”
The man who hails from Melmoth is one of the few footballers in history who have turned out for both Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
He has also had stints with Golden Arrows, Bloemfontein Celtic, Platinum Stars, Free State Stars, Cape Town City and AmaZulu FC.
