‘He paved the way for us all…’: Augustine Kwem

AmaZulu FC forward Augustine Kwem has opened up about his Nigeria’s Super Eagles wish while naming the DStv Premiership star he looks up to.

Kwem has been in the DStv Premiership since June 2019 when he joined Chippa United. He also played for TS Galaxy before switching to the Durban-based side, AmaZulu FC.

Just like any other Nigerian footballer, Kwem is eagerly waiting to be considered to represent Nigeria’s Super Eagles one day.

So far, some of his compatriots in the DStv Premiership have been called to don the green and white Super Eagles jersey.

These include Olisa Ndah who debuted for the 2023 AFCON finalists back in June 2021. Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabili was outstanding during the AFCON finals where he was Nigeria’s first-choice goalie.

And Kwem has been inspired by Nwabali who he believes has proven a point about Nigerians in the PSL.

“What he did is something that makes me proud as a Nigerian in South Africa. He did extremely well than most people thought and has proven the DStv Premiership’s worth.

“He has also given us the energy and has paved the way for us that we can do it. It’s my dream to get called up one day,” Kwem told FARPost.

Nwabali had an impressive spell at the 2023 AFCON tournament where he helped Nigeria reach the final.

Deservedly, his contribution has attracted so much attention on him ahead of the next transfer window. Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs are one of the clubs who are reportedly interested in his services.

In addition, England Championship side Queens Park Rangers and Saudi Pro League outfit Al Ettifaq are said to be angling for his services.

All the clubs are said to have made enquiries about the 27-year-old and Chippa United are looking forward to cash-in on the Nigerian.
