3 key things Kaizer Motaung Jr said about Arthur Zwane’s situation at Chiefs

With fans baying for Arthur Zwane’s blood after some inconsistent performances, Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr has had a say.

Zwane had to be escorted by police as scenes turned ugly after Chiefs’ 3-2 loss to Golden Arrows on Sunday in Polokwane.

Ahead of Saturday, 25 February, the derby showdown against Orlando Pirates, Motaung Jr has had much to say.

NOT HAPPY WITH LEAGUE POSITION

The former Chiefs striker said they were unhappy with the eight losses and sitting in position five.

“It’s a no-brainer. We are not happy with having lost eight games and being in fifth place,” said Motaung Jr during the Soweto Derby Press Conference.

By his own admission, Chiefs are a big team, and success is demanded. He, however, believes that had they converted their chances in many of their games, the situation would be different.

“There are so many games this season where we ask ourselves how we did not come out with full points.”

THERE ARE PLENTY OF POSITIVES

While fans are seemingly despondent, Motaung Jr believes many positives exist.

He made assurances that management would do everything in its hands to turn around the situation.

“It is not a good situation to be in. but at the same time, there have been many positives.

“We’re sitting with an 18-year-old Mduduzi Shabalala, who just scored [in the 3-2 loss against Golden Arrows].

“He has immense talent, and it speaks to a lot of the planning in terms of our academy and recruitment.

“We have had to integrate them into the first team. I think looking forward, the only way we can rectify this is to get results and change the tide,” added Motaung Jr.

Besides Shabalala, Zwane has shown faith in academy graduates Samkelo Zwane and Wandile Duba.

That being said, Motaung Jr is aware that talking about the positives will not buy the coach time, as fans demand results and trophies.

He boldly declared that the Chiefs board would ‘support their young coach with resources’. He picked two elements the coach needs – the right players and the right environment for him to succeed.

“Anyone who has experience got it by doing their job,” he said.

The sporting director added that the ‘short turnaround time in the type of football Zwane plays’ was positive.

According to Motaung Jr, there is a sense that the technical staff are hard at work and know the areas they need to work on.
