4th South African joins Mosimane in Saudi Arabia

The fourth South African has joined Pitso Mosimane at Saudi Arabia side Al Ahli.

The latest addition brings the number of South Africans at Al Ahli Saudi to five following the arrival of former Maritzburg United assistant coach Maahier Davids.

Head coach Pitso Mosimane has bolstered his Saudi Arabia second tier club’s coaching panel by bringing on board Davids.

Mosimane’s management agency MTSports @MTSports10 has confirmed that the former Maritzburg assistant coach was on his way to Saudi Arabia.

MOSIMANE’S DREAM TEAM

“The final member of the Dream Team has made his way to Jeddah… Coach Maahier Davids will be joining  @ALAHLI_FC as an assistant coach to Coach Pitso Mosimane.  We wish him all the best with this new chapter. Bon Voyage Coach Maahier,” MTSsports tweeted.

The arrival of the former Cape Umoya coach makes it a total of five South Africans doing duty at Al Ahli.

The brother to former Orlando Pirates coach Fadlu Davids joins at Al Ahli compatriots Mosimane, Musi Matlaba, Kyle Solomons (analysts) and strength and conditioning coach Kabelo Rangoaga.

Matlaba, Solomons, Rangoaga and Calvin Johnson worked with Mosimane at Al Ahly in Egypt.

Johnson did not stay long as he ended up leaving the Al Ahly job.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach, too, followed suit to resign from Al Ahly in June this year.

AFTER SABBATICAL

Mosimane’s exit ended after 21 months that produced multiple trophies, including two CAF Champions League titles.

After a sabbatical, Mosimane has made a positive start to the second-tier Saudi Arabian side by registering some positive results.

The former Al Ahly coach inherited the team while on sixth place but it is now third on the log table.

Mosimane managed two wins and a draw since ascending to the throne two months ago.

The former Bafana Bafana coach has been tasked with steering the Jeddah-based club back to the top tier Saudi Professional League.

Domestic football is now on break until December 16 paving the way for the 2022 Qatar World Cup which kicks off later this month.
