Al Ahly, Zamalek join race for PSL striker
Egyptian giants Al Ahly and Zamalek have joined a long list of clubs jostling for the signature of a PSL striker.
Ranga Chivaviro has been key in Marumo’s CAF Confederation Cup campaign this season which has seen them reach the quarterfinals.
On Sunday, the 30-year-old forward was on target as Marumo notched the all-important away goal against ambitious Egyptian side Pyramids FC in a 1-1 first-leg draw of their quarterfinal tie played at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo.
RANGA CHIVAVIRO HAS BEEN IMPRESSIVE
Ramadani Sobhi’s late penalty cancelled out Chivaviro’s 55th-minute header.
With that, it seems the Marumo talisman had done enough to impress scouts from the two Cairo giants.
“His representatives have received offers from all over Africa, and Zamalek and Al Ahly are the big ones. From the look of things, he won’t be here next season,” a teammate told FARPost.
The former Baroka and Venda Football Academy forward has been impressive this season and has scored 15 competitive goals, six alone coming in CAF competition.
On the home front, Chivaviro has attracted interest from Richards Bay.
Queries for the big striker have also come from Tanzania clubs Young Africans and Azam FC. North Africans Future FC are also considering him.
Chivaviro joined Marumo on a one-year deal with an option to extend his stay for another year.
Marumo have reportedly made their intentions known to Chivaviro that they intend to trigger that option.
NOT ENTIRELY SAFE
However, the two parties are waiting for the end of the season to open negotiations.
Meanwhile, the Limpopo side is not entirely safe from relegation and are currently fourth from the bottom in 13th spot.
Marumo have 28 points from 27 games and three left to play, while basement side Maritzburg United are three points behind them.
Interestingly, the two clubs clash in their next league encounter on May 3, 2023.
But before then, Marumo has a CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinal final-leg date at home against Pyramids on April 30 at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg. Kick-off is 6pm.
