AmaZulu FC are assessing the former Stellenbosch FC youngster as they look to strengthen their defensive midfield following the departure of Makhehleni Makhaula.
The former South Africa youth international, Mswati Mavuso, has been under the watchful eye of Romain Folz. And FARPost understands that he’s likely to put pen to paper soon.
The club’s president Sandile Zungu told this publication that they’re “positive” about the 22-year-old, meaning he’s done almost enough to capture Folz’s affection.

“We’re still assessing him but we are very positive about him at this stage,” Zungu told FARPost.
“Once we get it formalised one way or the other, we’ll issue a statement.”
Zungu admitted that Mavuso has the potential to reach Makhaula’s level but insisted the club doesn’t deem the youngster as the 33-year-old’s replacement.
He further stated that this is because the defensive midfielder position is very demanding.
“He’s a future defensive midfielder of the likes of Makhaula,” he added.
“But he’s not the only one, we’ve got someone like Tercious Malepe, Abbubeker Mobara who fits in very nicely in that position, and another guy from our reserve team.
“We’re not looking for him to be an automatic replacement [of Makhaula]. He’s young, he’s 22 years old.
“It’s a very demanding position. It can be fulfilled by a young person, no doubt about it but it needs a lot of work.
“But he’s someone with exceptional potential but we don’t just sign someone because he has potential. We look at a whole lot of other factors.”
WHO IS MSWATI MAVUSO?
Mavuso was born in Vryhed, KwaZulu-Natal and he played his youth football at Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits. He had stints with Mbombela United and Witbank Spurs before he joined Stellenbosch FC in 2020.
Unfortunately, he struggled for game time at Stellies until he left the club the following year to join Steenberg who were competing in the second-tier at the time.
In 2022, he then signed for a European team called Europa Point FC in Gibraltar and parted ways with them at the end of the previous year.
