Bobby Motaung speaks out on Arthur Zwane’s future at Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has commented on the future of the club’s head coach Arthur Zwane with few games left before the curtain comes down on the season.
‘10111’ is left with Nedbank Cup as the last chance to finish the 2022/23 season having hoisted silverware.
While he has set his sights on the Nedbank Cup, he is also eyeing the CAF Champions League spot.
The Chiefs legend was appointed to stir the Naturena ship following the sacking of Stuart Baxter. And the club has had a roller-coaster season under his leadership.
However, Motaung says Zwane needs more time to continue reconstructing the club.
BOBBY MOTAUNG SPEAKS OUT ON ARTHUR ZWANE’S FUTURE AT CHIEFS
“We’ve assembled a new team, he’s a new coach, we need to give him time,” Motaung said.
“And we need to build on what we started. So we believe in him, that’s why we have him here.
“If we didn’t believe in him, we would never have given him a chance. I think we believed in him, and we have to help him and build the team with him, it’s about the future.
“I mean if you look at the team, I mean it’s a young team. We only can help him and support him with any support system that he needs or technical support, we’ll support him.
“But he’s definitely doing a good job as you can see.”
On Sunday, Zwane took his side to the Nedbank Cup semi-finals, beating Royal AM at home. Chiefs will now come up against Orlando Pirates seeking to secure a place in the final.
Asked whether the result in the Nedbank Cup would affect the 49-year-old coach’s future at the club, Motaung maintained that they were still building and Zwane deserved a fair chance.
WILL NEDBANK CUP DECIDES ZWANE’S FUTURE?
“No, I think we said it that we’re building a new squad for the future,” he added.
“So, we have to give them a chance. Even the youngsters, most of them are only adapting now.
“Some of them have not even adapted to the pressure and style of Kaizer Chiefs. So, it’s just ongoing progress in terms of looking at how can we help him to grow.
“We’re putting him up there not to set hip up but we’re putting him up there to build him. So, I think he’s got a bright future ahead of him.”
